Dave DeMaria, Chief Executive Officer
Dave is an accomplished, successful executive with over 20 years of experience in the EDA industry. Most recently Dave was at Cadence for over 7 years in a variety of executive roles. In his first role as General Manager of Cadence’s PCB business he drove Cadence to the worldwide leadership position in the PCB and IC Packaging markets. He was then promoted to Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, with responsibility for all of Cadence’s products and services and for the company’s strategic planning efforts. Dave was then promoted to Executive Vice President of Cadence’s Systems Business, which included the Silicon-Package-Board and Emulation solutions. Prior to Cadence, Dave was Group Vice President of Viewlogic’s Systems business. Dave began his career in EDA in 1983 at Racal-Redac, which was later acquired by Zuken. Dave spent six years living in Europe driving Racal-Redac’s worldwide product development and marketing activities. He was instrumental in merging Racal-Redac with Zuken, and in his last role was Managing Director of Zuken-Redac, responsible for all of the companies’ product development, marketing, sales and operations activities in Europe and North America. Dave earned a BS degree in computer engineering from Boston University.
Dr. An-Yu Kuo, Chief Technical Officer and Member of the Board of Directors
Dr. An-Yu Kuo co-founded Optimal Corporation to provide electrical and thermomechanical simulation services to local electronics and semiconductor equipment companies, and was integral to the development of Optimal’s flagship products O-Wave, PakSi-E and PakSi-TM. From 1984 to 1995, An-Yu served as an Associate of Structural Integrity Associates in San Jose, California where he performed thermal, mechanical and electrical simulation services for various electronics companies. The company honored An-Yu’s value by granting him its first ever Innovation of the Year award for applying a break-through numerical algorithm to a real-time fatigue usage monitoring system of power plant components. An-Yu published more than 50 technical papers during his 11 year tenure. Prior to joining Structural Integrity, An-Yu developed and maintained finite element code for stress analysis of power plant components for Nutech in San Jose, California. An-Yu received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from national Tsing-Hua University in Hsinchu , Taiwan and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. An-Yu also received a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Jamie Metcalfe, Vice President Business Development
Jamie brings to Optimal his success as an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience in the EDA industry, with the last ten years being at Cadence Design Systems. During his Cadence tenure, Jamie held positions including Vice President of Marketing for Systems-in-Package and PCB systems design where he was responsible for product strategy, developing strategic relationships with customers and partners, and marketing activities. Prior to Cadence, Jamie spent ten years at Mentor Graphics, most recently as the European field marketing manager for the company’s Systems Design product lines. Jamie began his career with Racal-Redac (now part of Zuken) where he worked as a software engineer and team leader.
Sungmin Kim, Vice President of Engineering
Sungmin Kim is well known for his proven record of successful development of quality software products in the EDA industry. He has more than 20 years of experience in developing electrical, thermal/mechanical, and manufacturing simulation software for ICs, packages, PCBs, and systems. Currently at Optimal, Sungmin is in charge of common modules for all Optimal products, PakSi-E and its integrated solution within Cadence Allegro Package SI. Prior to joining Optimal, he was a Director of Engineering at Knights Technology Division of Electroglas where he managed two development teams – Merlin CAD Navigation (IC defect analysis software) and Yield Management (IC wafer yield and process analysis). He also helped Knights to expand its staff in Mumbai , India from 20 to 60 engineers within a year. From 1984 to 1999, Sungmin was the Executive Director of Product Development at Pacific Numerix (acquired by Ansoft) where he developed leading edge simulation software products for packages, PCBs, and systems. Sungmin received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Inha University in Incheon, Korea. He also received a MS in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
